ECS 848P-A Memperkaya Tradisi Lama [Kliping Majalah]

Bagi orang timur adat atau tradisi menjadi sebuah norma yang sangat dijunjung tinggi dalam tatanan masyarakatnya. Orang timur dianggap lebih berbudaya dibanding orang barat karena masih berlakunya norma-norma tradisional ini.

Buat Intel sang pencipta chipset 848, mempertahankan tradisi sepertinya menjadi keharusan, apalagi bila ingin tetap menampilkan sebuah solusi untuk board dengan harga ekonomis. Chipset 848 jelas ditujukan untuk pasar itu, dan ECS yang terkenal sebagai peramu produk board ekonomis namun berkualitas langsung meresponsnya.

848P-A memiliki sederet feature yang diklaim ECS sebagai ‘spesial’: 8 buah USB 2.0, AGP 8x, mendukung Ultra DMA 66/100/133, dan mendukung hingga DDR400 serta dua port SATA. Feature tersebut rasanya memang cukup mewah, mengingat i845 terdahulu tidak memiliki feature di atas. Hal ini dimungkinkan karena board ini memiliki ICH5 (82801EB) pada southbridge-nya. Sayangnya, LAN terintegrasi tidak diberikan pada board ini.

Masuk ke dalam konfigurasi BIOS, ECS tetap memberikan pilihan yang baik, konfigurasi untuk melakukan tweak seperti DRAM Timing Selectable, DRAM Voltage, Fast Chips Select, Turbo Mode, CPU Clock, CPU Clock Ratio dan berbagai variasi pilihan FSB.

ECS KT600A Kembali ke Orde Lama [Kliping Majalah]

Alternatif motherboard untuk CPU AMD kembali marak. Kembalinya pemain lama VIA menambah pilihan untuk solusi prosesor AMD, salah satunya adalah ECS KT600A.

Mendukung penuh FSB 400 MHz menjadi sebuah hal yang paling diunggulkan produk ini. Bagaimana tidak, semua featurenya terbilang “bergaya lama”: AGP 8x, AC’97 Audio Codec, dan 4 buah port USB 2.0. Sedangkan perlengkapan yang absen disini adalah LAN, meskipun termasuk penting saat ini. Konektor SATA tetap tersedia, namun fungsinya hanya sebatas RAID saja. Jadi hard disk yang ditancapkan harus di RAID dahulu, baru kemudian sistem dapat membacanya.

Yang cukup mengganggu adalah penempatan slot DIMM yang berdekatan dengan slot AGP. Hal ini mengakibatkan kesulitan saat mengganti memori. Pengguna harus melepaskan card yang tertancap pada AGP terlebih dahulu. Kesulitan tidak berhenti sampai disitu, Pilihan FSB pun masih harus diatur melalui jumper. Tidak ada pilihan sama sekali pada BIOS. Pilihan yang ada hanya terbatas pada 100, 133, 166, dan 200 MHz.

Meski didukung oleh V-Link Host Interface dengan peak bandwidth 533 MB/sec, kinerja board ini termasuk biasa saja. V-Link tersebut merupakan jembatan transfer data antara chipset NB ke chipset SB.

ECS KM400-M Solusi All-in-One dari ECS [Kliping Majalah]

Motherboard all-in-one selalu mendapat tempat di pasaran Indonesia. Fakta ini terlihat dari banyaknya produsen yang mengeluarkan produk untuk segmen ini. ECS merupakan salah satu produsen motherboard yang telah lama berkecimpung di produk serupa. ECS tampaknya juga tidak ingin membiarkan pasar yang cukup menjanjikan ini dikuasai produsen lain begitu saja. Salah satu upayanya adalah dengan meliris motherboard allin-one untuk prosesor AMD bermotorkan chipset VIA Unichrome KM400.

Board ini telah mengintegrasikan LAN dengan chip Realtek RTL8100C, dan sound onboard chip Realtek ALC655 yang mendukung output audio hingga 6-channel. Dengan digunakannya VIA Unichrome KM400, maka secara terintegrasi tersedia juga VGA onboard S3 Unichrome 2D/3D Graphic. Walaupun egitu, pihak ECS tetap menyertakan sebuah port AGP. Tentu saja ini akan sangat menguntungkan pengguna yang di masa depan ingin mengganti VGA onboard dengan VGA card yang berkinerja lebih baik.

Pada pengujian menggunakan aplikasi 3D, tampak bahwa board ini memang bukan ditujukan untuk gamer. Hal ini terlihat dari kecilnya skor yang dihasilkan dari pengujian tersebut. Sedangkan pada pengujian dengan menggunakan aplikasi sehari-hari, board ini memang cukup dapat diandalkan. Skor yang diraih dari pengujian ini cukup baik untuk board yang sekelas dengannya. Tingkat kestabilannya pun cukup baik.
